I love anything and everything outdoors. My safe haven is in the mountains surrounded by trees and fresh air. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the culture that cities have to offer–music, theatre, and art, but I always find myself being drawn back to the mountains. I also like to dabble in playing new instruments and learning new random skills, like morse code or cake decorating. Most importantly, I love meeting new people and learning about what makes them who they are. I love helping people in whatever way possible, and making friends along the way.
How did it all start?
Health has always been a part of my life, and when I say always, I mean always. My parents have owned a gym for more than 30 years where I have spent countless hours waiting for my parents to get off work, being personal trained by my dad, and eventually where I worked as a swim instructor and director of a kids movement program. Little did I know in my younger years that I would follow in my parent’s footsteps.
I went to college at Brigham Young University with the determination to go to medical school, but I decided that I wanted to take a more proactive approach to health rather than a reactive. This led to me getting a degree in Exercise and Wellness with a minor in Gerontology. I am fascinated by how little things, lifestyle habits, can impact a person’s health in a variety of ways and how even the smallest changes can make the biggest difference. This fascination and passion helps me seek out whatever knowledge I can on the subject of health and weight loss. I am certified as a Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, and Weight Loss Specialist and have worked in various aspects of my field including personal training, a nutrition and exercise coach in a hospital setting, and a health coach for a weight loss center.
Although my education and work is important and has helped me learn the “why” behind living healthy, it wasn’t until COVID that I learned more about the “how” behind it. That year, just like many other millions of Americans, I found myself quickly gaining weight. There were so many reasons for it: lack of exercise, bad diet, emotional eating, depression, and a host of other things. I gained about 25 pounds within that year until I finally decided enough was enough. I implemented all those tools I had learned in college and began my weight loss journey. I lost the weight over the next few months, and got back to where I felt healthy again. This changed my perspective on healthy living, but also just weight loss in general. I knew the dedication, the slip ups, the disappointment, the setbacks, and the hardships that all occur while losing weight and I want to help people on that journey. So for the past few years I have been helping people do just that. From teaching exercise classes to seniors, meeting one on one with individuals to help correct dietary habits, personal training individuals, and teaching wellness workshops, I have gained more knowledge and insight into everything that it takes to lose weight. Losing weight is no easy thing, that’s for sure, but with the right tools I can help make it a lot easier.
